MY OPINION

I must admit, I'm a big fan of this book. I loved it instantely.
It's wonderfully structured and illustrated and it welcomes its reader very warmly into a comfortable reading zone. I experienced this book as a very easy, informative and comforting read.

"This Book is Gay" creates a very safe space for its readers and is actually very important since it declares proudly and loudly that, whoever you are, whomever you love, that you are perfectly okay the way you are. And this is, in my opinion, a very important message.

I found this book to be very lovely made and so wonderfully easy to read because the text is so clearly structured and all the illustrations very much complete the book and make it an even nicer read.

I was a bit confused by the fact that the author wrote the book as a gay man but is now a straight trans woman because the author thereby contradicts herself sometimes within the book. Apprently, the edition that I own of the book, was edited after the author came out as trans - but some parts in it haven't really been edited and can confuse the reader a bit.

It's actually a very encouraging and needed book for any queer person, especially to help young queer people to come to terms with their identities.

I just felt so comfortable and happy and positive while reading this book - it's both so interesting and charming and witty and you actually learn a lot through it, while also having a great read.

The chapter "Gays & Religion" was very appealing to me, since I felt like a lot of research had went into this chapter. I found it so interesting to actually read about what some religions base their condemnation against gay people on. This was very informative for me.

CONCLUSION

I loved this book very much. It had everything in it that I could have possibly hoped and wished for and actually also much more than that! Everyone, and especially queer people, should read this book! It's also a great book to own because you can look some things up again every once in a while. That's why I'm very happy that it stands proudly upon my bookshelf in its bright rainbow colours.
I just loved every page of it and learned so much from it and thoroughly enjoyed reading it. - And honesty, what more could you want from a book? :)

RATING
